Your best sales day may be coming up. Nope – it’s not the day Connor McGregor fights Dustin Poirier. It’s December 26th and one of the biggest sales days in the UK.
According to Klaviyo – forty-eight percent of British consumers said Boxing Day is the most popular shopping day of the year. Boxing day is a national holiday in the UK and other British Commonwealth countries such as Australia, Canada and New Zealand.
Retailers across the globe are now using Boxing Day as an opportunity to push additional inventory off the shelves and make room for new products that will soon be flooding in.
Typically Boxing Day sales last for over a week. Occasionally they start on the 23rd of December and they run until the New Year. The big question for retailers who are in the EU space is should you put more weight into Cyber Weekend or Boxing Day?
The answer is both (until you figure out what resonates best with your audience that is). Boxing Day has the opportunity to offer more value than just a chance to grab a gift for anyone you may have over looked on your list. It offers a chance to purchase for yourself since you weren’t during the entire Christmas season.
If you’re running emails in the EU during Boxing Day make sure they have a strong discount and a January themed messaged.
Most retailers are caught up in the here and now strategies of their eCommerce stores – but think of the millions you could make with a solid post Christmas strategy.
